How are logistics costs developing?

The initial situation for a strategic site simulation is often similar: location and distribution structures have usually grown traditionally. A lack of planning security with high investment requirements makes it difficult to make targeted changes to the location structure and hinders the necessary further development of the company.

Strategic Site Simulation: We simulate your Supply Chain

A site simulation that takes into account all the key elements of the supply chain provides the necessary basis for forward-looking business decisions. The powerful location simulation program STASIM, developed by the logistics consultants at ORGAPLAN Logistik GmbH, is used for this purpose.

Location optimization through location simulation

The aim of a site simulation is to shed strategic light on upcoming location planning. Location optimization is used to vary the number and location of possible logistics sites. STASIM is the simulation tool used for location optimization.

Typical questions:

  • How many locations are optimal? (Location optimization)
  • Which functions and resources are required?
  • How can the existing logistics network be optimized?
  • Which customer connection is ideal (catchment area)?
  • How can the goods flow be optimally controlled?
  • What is the optimum supply concept in terms of inbound and outbound?
  • How are the costs distributed along the supply chain in the ideal profile?
  • What risks are involved?

Location planning through modeling of logistics networks

Long gone are the days when logistics networks were manually modelled and then evaluated for location planning. Multi-location solutions, European or even global orientations require dynamic models for location planning and simulation. This means that any location optimisation in the sense of a local shift automatically leads to a different cost situation in both the warehouse and the transport area. The choice of location is influenced by many factors.

For this reason, logisticians and mathematicians were involved in the development of ORGAPLAN Logistik GmbH’s location simulation system STASIM. Benefit from the extensive know-how gained from numerous projects in the field of strategic network and location simulations in various industries.

We have been continuously developing STASIM for many years. As a result, this tool is now a universal all-rounder.

Analysing the site from scratch

The analysis is carried out as follows: First, we map supply chains from inbound to outbound. Then we model and simulate them individually. We can then store individual freight tables for transport and process cost modules for the warehouse or production area. We dynamically include intermediate shipments and transhipments via UP / TSP or HUB in the overall distribution planning. Sub-analyses, where only partial areas need to be optimised, are also possible.

We model multimodal networks and their goods flows and store them in a flexible way. One of the strengths of STASIM® is the enormous power of the software. The flow of goods can be modelled on the basis of annual turnover per customer or at order level. Several hundred thousand data records can be processed and alternative scenarios simulated for location analysis and optimisation in a very short time. Whereas such analyses used to take several years to complete, today’s powerful routing engines ensure rapid results in location simulation. Alternatives and what-if scenarios can be efficiently simulated and evaluated.
